Child Feeding Programs

It takes a village to raise a child. And sometimes it takes a village just to feed one. Harvest Hope Food Bank is here to help with after-school programs and a belief that no child should go without. See below for more information.

Kids Cafe

Do you enjoy working with kids? Harvest Hope Food Bank's Kids Cafe provides hot, nutritious meals to children in low-income after-school programs at 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that DO NOT charge a fee for children to attend.

Kids Cafe volunteers partner with site staff and students to set up, serve and clean up a weeknight meal. A one-day-per-week minimum commitment is requested. Kids Cafe is generally served for 30 minutes in the late afternoon/early evening; total volunteer time per day is approximately 1.5 hours. Volunteers will participate in a food safety and Kids Cafe training session prior to starting at a site.

If you or your organization are interested in supporting the Kids Cafe program, please contact Henry Counts at (803) 254-4432 ext 1116 or hcounts@harvesthope.org or fill out the Interested Sites Application Form.

  • Kids Cafe Facts: Harvest Hope Food Bank Kids Cafe sites serve an average of 300 children over 3,100 nutritious, warm meals monthly to 13 after-school sites.  The after-school sites include churches, community centers and Boys & Girls Clubs where 50% or more of the participants receive free or reduced breakfasts and lunches at school.

BackPack Program

At our kids cafe sites, and select schools with 50% free and reduce breakfast and lunch, needy children also participate in the BackPack Program. Each child receives a backpack of child-friendly, nutritious, easy-to-open food to last them over the weekend. We are currently in the process of looking for “Faith Partners” (churches located near our Backpack schools) for our Backpack Program to help pack backpacks each week and send them to schools for distribution.  If you are interested, please contact Henry Counts at (803) 254-4432 ext 1116 or hcounts@harvesthope.org.

SnackSack  Program
