• Bank of America to Provide a 2:1 Charitable Match to Give a Meal Program

    Donors to Harvest Hope Food Bank can TRIPLE their donations this holiday season thanks to a generous gift from Bank of America. For everyone struggling to put food on their tables, hunger offers no holiday, so this is a great opportunity to see your giving power increased.

    In a program launched with Feeding America, the bank announced it will provide a $2-for-$1 match of donations to the “Give a Meal” program. Through this match, individuals and customers will be able to triple the impact of their donations and provide meals to people in need. Donors can direct their gifts to Harvest Hope or to Feeding America, the nation’s leading hunger-relief organization.

    Bank of America is the exclusive sponsor of the Give a Meal program this holiday season and will be joined this year by celebrity chef, author and television host Rocco DiSpirito, who will serve as the campaign’s spokesman and raise visibility about hunger in our communities and the simple way people can help.

    “We’re proud to partner again with Feeding America,” said Kerry Sullivan, president of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. “Thefunds raised through the Give a Meal program will help address the pervasive hunger rates and growing demand for food assistance and other critical needs across the United States, in both large and small communities.”

    The Bank of America Charitable Foundation will contribute $2 for every $1 donated via feedingamerica.org/BankofAmerica or bankofamerica.com/give, up to a total match of $1.5 million.  In addition, the bank will contribute $1 million to Feeding America and bank employees will participate in more than 300 hunger-related volunteer efforts around the country.

    The program was an unprecedented success last year, with more than 8,000 donors from across the country providing more than 26 million meals. The need for hunger relief continues to be great this year. According to the US Department of Agriculture, 50.1 million people in the United States are struggling with hunger. Of that number, 16.7 million are children.

    Harvest Hope began in 1981 as a shared vision of business leaders and the faith community who set out to provide for the hungry in Columbia. From our simple beginnings, Harvest Hope has increased the scope of its mission and now provides food, comfort and HOPE to hungry individuals and families in the Midlands, Pee Dee and Greater Greenville regions of South Carolina.

    Greenvile, S.C., October 26, 2012 – Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy invites the Upstate community to help them collect non-perishable items for Harvest Hope Food Bank.  The food drive will be held at the BI-LO Center on Saturday, November 3 from noon to 3:00 pm.  For every five non-perishable items donated, a family will receive one voucher for a free ticket to opening night of Disney on Ice (Wednesday, November 21)* while ticket supplies last.  The goal is to collect a record amount of food for struggling Upstate families.
    The event, while helping Harvest Hope with its mission to stamp out hunger, will also have lots of fun activities for the whole family.  Activities include face painting for the kids and a chance to win one of three Disney-themed prize packs. Disc jockeys from WSPA-FM, 98.9, will be on hand to broadcast live.
    Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy will show at the BI-LO Center from November 21 through 25.  Thrill to high-speed stunts as Lightning McQueen, Mater and the crew of Disney•Pixar’s Cars race across the ice. Dive into The Little Mermaid’s enchanting undersea kingdom and enter the mystical world of Pixie Hollow with Tinker Bell and the Disney Fairies as they reveal the magic that lies within! The toys are back in town with heroic action when Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and the Toy Story gang escape from the rambunctious tots of Sunnyside Daycare and race for home, in their most daring adventure ever!

    Local Happiness Event Features Great Food and
    Live Music to Benefit Harvest Hope Food Bank

    (Columbia) Harvest Hope Food Bank is proud to partner with Local Happiness to present the first annual Local Happiness Experience & Harvest Hope Food Drive at Richland Mall on Forest Drive from 3:00 – 9:00 pm on Thursday November 8.

    The event, held on the first floor of Richland Mall near Sadie’s American Cafeteria, will feature LIVE music by Jim Sonefeld (formerly of Hootie and the Blowfish) from his new inspirational album Found, Lunch Money and Melanie McMillan in addition to FREE food tasting provided by Sadie’s.

    The concert and tasting event is FREE with a donation of at least four non-perishable food items for Harvest Hope. To further help Harvest Hope’s mission to feed struggling families across 20 SC counties, 40% of proceeds from the sale of Local Happiness SC made products will go to Harvest Hope.

    Belk Salon at Richland Mall will set up in front of Sadie’s American Restaurant and offer a Cut-a-Thon donation drive during the Local Happiness Concert from 3:00 until 9:00 pm. Salon staff members are offering $15 haircuts, $10 chair massages and $5 hand treatments and nail polish sessions, with ALL proceeds going to Harvest Hope.

    Local Happiness is a Columbia-based organization that provides schools and other groups like Harvest Hope and the American Diabetes Association the opportunity to fund raise with the sale of South Carolina-based products as opposed to the usual assortment of generic national products like wrapping paper and frozen pizzas or cookie dough.  Local Happiness offers the sale of products from South Carolina product partners like Mr. B’s Sustainable Glassworks, Bell Honey, Blackburn Designs, Blue Moon Specialty Foods, The Butter Bath Company, Lee’s Southern Seasonings, Charleston Cookie Company and many others.
