Harvest Hope Food Bank received $7,628 from Richland County to assist in running Harvest Hope’s Emergency Food Pantry (EFP). The grant will provide food for the pantry and a limited number of bus passes to assist those with limited transportation options in getting to the EFP.

Child hunger is a major problem in South Carolina, with nearly 800,000 people facing food insecurity. In Richland County alone, almost 57,000 adults and 17,000 children struggle with hunger. Those numbers represent nearly 20% of the population.

“Richland County has so many wonderful aspects many people are surprised at the levels of hunger,” said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope. “With this grant we’ll be able to make life a little easier on those who are having the hardest time.”
