Harvest Hope Food Bank received $10,000 from Food Lion and Feeding America to run Kid’s Café programs. The grant provided by the organizations will help fund the program which provides a safe place for children to receive a nutritious meal and to do their homework.
The Kids Cafe Program provides children ages 6-18 at risk for going hungry a safe haven afterschool. It provides the students with a nutritional foundation which will enable the children to concentrate on their studies, and provides positive role models in the volunteers who assist them with their homework. Children will receive a nutritious meal/snack before heading home for the day. Harvest Hope currently has a total of six (6) Kids Café sites during 2015 -2016 school year.
“Proving children with a safe place and a warm meal makes a big difference in their lives,” said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope. “Many studies have shown that a child’s nutrition is very closely tied to their academic success and we’re excited to be able to partner with Food Lion and Feeding America to help make sure this children have a better future.”
