Government Shutdown Information

As the government shutdown continues, we want to provide some information to our clients or prospective clients.

 

SNAP Benefit Recipients:

If you are a SNAP benefits recipient, you will be receiving your February benefits on Thursday, January 17th. Please be mindful that this is not additional resources or a bonus for January, but rather your February benefits coming early due to the government shutdown. We ask that you be cautious and budget for your family’s needs for February, as your next set of benefits will not come until March. Harvest Hope pantries will still be able to serve clients after the normal 30 day waiting period.

Government Shutdown:

If you are a Federal employee in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at 803-254-4432. We have emergency food pantries in Columbia and Greenville who are ready to serve you. If you do not live close to one of these pantries, please call us or click on “Get Help” on our website and follow the instructions to find one of our partner agencies near you. 

There will be a free pantry in Florence on Wednesday, January 23rd from 11 am - 2 pm and 4 pm - 6 pm at the Hampton Inn & Suites at Hwy 52 and I-95. We will be distributing food, water, toiletries, baby items and other supplies. *You must bring your government ID to receive assistance.*

If you are a community member wanting to help federal employees, we have a couple of options available:

  • You can give a monetary donation at donate.harvesthope.org. Be sure to put “Government Shutdown” in the notes section. All monies collected will go to helping federal employees. If you wish to send a check, please put “government shutdown” in the memo line.
  • You can host a food or supply drive to collect items for those in need. Click here for more information. Please be sure to note that your food drive is for federal employees.
  • You can drop off items and supplies at one of our three locations in Columbia, Greenville or Florence. Please let the receptionist or person assisting you know that these items are for federal employees. There will also be boxes at each location marked for federal employees.
  • You can purchase items from our Amazon Wish List here and have the items sent to us to distribute.
