Harvest Hope Food Bank received $50,000 from the Publix Super Markets Charities to assist in child feeding programs. The grant provided by the organization will help fund programs which assist in feeding the more than 100,000 children across Harvest Hope’s 20 counties who struggle with hunger.
Child hunger is a major problem in South Carolina, with more than 250,000 children facing food insecurity. In the 20 counties which Harvest Hope covers, child hunger rates are as high as 32% in some counties, with no county having a rate lower than 19%.
“Children are the most vulnerable among us when it comes to hunger,” said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope. “With so many families unable to consistently provide for their children, we’ve heard stories of children having sugar water as their dinner. This grant will make a huge difference in proving meals for those most in need.”
