Unilever, Food Lion Feeds Donate $500,000 of Food to Harvest Hope

September 3, 2020

In honor of Hunger Action Month and the Darlington Southern 500, Unilever has teamed up with Food Lion Feeds to donate $500,000 worth of food to Harvest Hope’s Pee Dee branch to help fill tables in the local community.

During the month of September, food banks across the country will celebrate Hunger Action Month, encouraging community members to give back through donating, volunteering and supporting their local food bank.

“Being able to celebrate Hunger Action Month with such a generous gift from our partners, Unilever and Food Lion Feeds, is incredible,” says Wendy Broderick, Harvest Hope CEO. “We couldn’t continue our mission of building a hunger-free tomorrow without their support.”

“As part of our continued work through United for America, Unilever and our partners are supporting communities that have been hardest hit by COVID-19. We’re honored to partner with Food Lion Feeds to make this donation to Harvest Hope and help feed the people of the Carolinas,” said Terry Thomas, Unilever EVP of Customer Development.

September also marks month six since the food bank began its COVID-19 response efforts. Since March, Harvest Hope has seen a 156% increase in the amount of food distributed throughout the Pee Dee area.
“The past six months have been hard on everyone, but this donation is going to allow us to provide more families with food and hope around their tables tonight,” continues Broderick.
