Harvest Hope Food Bank Kicks Off Child Feeding Programs During Summer Break
Jun 2, 2026
Harvest Hope Food Bank, in partnership with several community organizations, is launching its summer child feeding programs. In June and July, free weekly meal distributions will be available for children under the age of 18. The initiative is designed to support families during the summer months when school is out of session, and access to regular meals may be limited.
Each meal kit meets USDA nutrition standards and includes breakfast, lunch, and a snack for a five-day period. To make participation as convenient as possible, children do not need to be present during pickup, and all distribution sites operate as grab-and-go locations for quick and easy access.
“1 in 5 children throughout South Carolina will experience hunger, and this statistic only worsens in the summer months when families cannot rely on school meals,” said Sy Hughes, Interim CEO of Harvest Hope Food Bank. “That’s where we come in. We are grateful to provide child feeding programs throughout Columbia, Greenville, Florence, Darlington, and Fort Lawn this summer. By offering quick, nutritious, kid-friendly meals, we aim to ease the burden on families and allow children to enjoy their summer with the energy they need.”
The program reflects Harvest Hope Food Bank’s continued commitment to fighting hunger and improving food access across South Carolina communities.
